Hey, my name is Anya MacLaren
I’m a scientist by passion, a photographer by heart, and a professional over-packer of camera gear whenever I travel.
My photography journey began with travel and landscape photography. Living in a busy city like London can be loud and overwhelming, so escaping into nature with my camera became my way of slowing down and recharging. Photography started as a way to bring memories home from the places I explored, but over time that love of storytelling evolved into photographing people.
Today I work across a variety of projects, from portraits and creative shoots to weddings, fashion shows and live events. I love combining my landscape background with portraiture, using locations, light and atmosphere to create images that feel cinematic and full of story.
Many people arrive at a shoot saying they don’t know how to pose or that they’re not photogenic. That’s completely normal — I guide my clients through the process, help shape ideas and concepts, and focus on the small details that make someone feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera.
Alongside photography, I’m also a scientist working in women’s health research. Photography and science may seem like very different worlds, but both are driven by curiosity, observation and a genuine interest in people’s stories.
If you have a creative idea, a dream location, or a project you’d love to bring to life, I’d love to hear about it.
